The Archaeometry Laboratory serves the research needs of the Museum by contributing to a better understanding of the technology of ancient artefacts; and to the documentation of conservation works. The lab has the equipment necessary for applying non-destructive methods of analysis and for the characterization of materials, without requiring destructive sampling or causing the deterioration of the ancient objects. The study of surfaces is done by a combination of photographic methods (infrared and UV reflection, UV fluorescence); X-ray (XRF) fluorescence spectroscopy; and Raman spectroscopy. Implementation of Raman Spectroscopy is carried out in collaboration with the archaeometry laboratory of the Byzantine and Christian Museum.
